PRESENTATION OF THE “CITY ONE MINUTE” PROJECT IN SHANGHAI
1 May – 31 October 2010 in Shanghai (China) in the frames of the World Expo Exhibition the presentation of the final review of the «City One Minute» project will take place. The exposition will consist of 24 screens, which show observers video portraits of different cities, where the project was run. Among works selected for the review is a City One Minute video programme about Kaliningrad.
The «City One Minute» project was realized in Kaliningrad from 3d to 13th October 2009 by «The One Minutes» foundation and the Kaliningrad Branch of the NCCA with the assistance of Fonds BKVB, the Netherlands Embassy in Russia and Wilhelmina E. Jansen Fonds. Co-curator of the project in Kaliningrad is Oleg Blyablyas (The KB NCCA).
Kaliningrad became one of four Russian cities, involved in the large-scale international «City One Minutes» project, led by «The One Minutes» foundation (Amsterdam). Nowadays the project covers more than 100 cities of the world, as well as Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Ekaterinburg. The aim of the project is exchange of experience, knowledge and artistic strategies between Dutch and Russian artists; strengthening of cultural ties between Russian regions and between Russia and the rest of the world; development of wider audience and exposition possibilities for young artists; appearance of Russian cities on the world (art) map.
In the frames of the project master classes were carried out in each city with participation of Dutch and Russian artists, during which they created a collective «portrait» of the city together. Each hour a video work 1 minute long was created in the city. It reflected a personal view of the artist on what makes his own city special, different from others. The result of the master class was a collective work – 24-minute film/installation – a portrait of the city within 24 hours. 18 young artists took part in the Kaliningrad project. Their works about our city will be a part of video presentation on the exhibition in Shanghai.
Videos shot by participants of the project is available on the special web-site www.cityoneminutes.org. They’re also broadcast on the digital channel of the Dutch TV Holland Doc 24, which will cover the presentation of the project at the World Expo Exhibition.
